What’s involved in teeth whitening?

If you live in near Walled Lake, you can benefit from a teeth whitening procedure at our local dental office. Dr. Hechtman is known for improving the appearance of our patients’ smiles. Teeth Whitening is a process where mild bleaching is applied to stained or discolored teeth, which in turn restores them to a healthy and natural color.

First, we will evaluate your teeth to determine whether whitening is right for you. In some cases a different cosmetic procedure may better meet your expectations. Fortunately, this process is safe, quick, and inexpensive, which almost everyone can benefit.

You can whiten your upper teeth or both the upper and lower. Typically, this is dependent on how much are exposed when you talk and smile.

Dental whitening can also be implemented to correct tooth discoloration, such as staining or aging.  We offer safe treatment for creating a “vibrant” smile, using the latest in whitening technology.

When considering whitening your teeth, you have options! Our dental practice
offers both take home and in-office teeth whitening solutions.

Let’s face it, when you look your best, you feel your best. Our dental office offers the best teeth whitening technology. Look no further, from at-home systems to in-office, we offer high performance options!

In-Office Teeth Bleaching Treatment

We use Venus White Max, for in-office whitening. This product uses hydrogen peroxide, which produces effective long lasting results. As an added benefit, we can add Venus Comfort Gel to in-house treatments, which utilizes potassium nitrate to reduce tooth sensitivity. The gel is applied in three to four, 15 minute sessions.

At-home – whiten your teeth at times convenient to you.

The first step is to make impressions of your teeth. We then create custom whitening trays in our lab to fit your mouth. The purpose of the trays are to ensure the whitening agent adequately comes in contact and whiten your teeth. Along this process we will keep track of your color progression to ensure positive results.

Bleaching Tray – next, we will educate you on properly applying the whitening agent onto your trays and how to properly insert them into your mouth. The treatment can be applied at your convenience, and does not interfere with your ability to speak.

When Will I See Results?

Most patients see results after the initial treatment. The time it takes will depend on the original color of your teeth, how discolored they were, and how frequently the treatment is applied. However, in most cases it will typically take approximately 2 to 6 weeks to restore your teeth to a beautiful white.

How Long Can I Expect the Results to Last?

Typically, you can enjoy your new smile for several years. You can however, “touch-up” your teeth every 6 to 12 months by applying a single treatment. Touch-ups are especially useful for patients that drink beverages that stain teeth, like coffee, tea, and colas.

Are There Any Side-Effects?

Some patients may experience mild gum or tooth sensitivity during the treatment, or heightened tooth sensitivity to cold. These symptoms are only usually temporary and disappear within a few days.

Key Benefits of Teeth Whitening

Whitening is very safe. We use a product that has been proven safe when used under the direction of a dentist. Teeth whitening can improve the appearance of brown / yellow and even spotted tooth staining. Any age group is eligible and can be an effective solution for a “dull” smile!

There are over-the-counter bleaching agents available in the market, however, these products have been known to cause harm to the gums and teeth. We recommend to use products that our practice recommends.

With only a few hours per day, our special bleaching material removes stains out of your enamel in a very short time. After your teeth achieve the desired brightness, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile.
